Alyssa M. Nieman Biography
Alyssa Nieman aspired to be become an educator since her youth. In high school she was challenged by a mentor to work through, and conquer many challenges. It was through this process of testing her abilities that Nieman knew she wanted to be an art teacher. She attended the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, NH where she received her BFA in drawing and painting and received an art education certificate.
While in college, Nieman was exposed to a number of mediums including drawing, painting with acrylics and oils, ceramics, black and white photography, digital photography, mixed media, and computer arts. Nieman learned to experiment whenever she could, using both new and old tools and techniques. In doing so, she widened her learning experiences to best educate her students. Nieman has a strong belief in education and hopes to never stop learning herself.
Nieman's last series was drawings of women's footwear. These depictions of shoes become portraits of the person who wears them. Nieman uses mechanical pencil to build up layers of angled marks to render the forms. This type of mark making allows her to be more connected to the work.
Nieman currently resides in Northern New Hampshire, and works as an art teacher in a neighboring town.
